The Meitheal

In rural Ireland communities came together in a “meitheal,” which is Gaelic for helping each other to bring in the harvest. The ancient Irish tradition of a group coming together to perform a job that’s too big for a single person is at the heart of the development of the Hibernian Memorial Park.

The Hibernian Memorial Park will be a way for Irish folks to express their pride and a place where future generations can learn the history of their ancestors. We encourage all members of the Irish community to get involved. Working together in a meitheal we can make this park dedicated to the Irish of New Orleans a reality.
